EA has finally announced that it will be released the NHL 13 demo to xbox and ps3 users next week. On August 21, users from all over will be racing to download the demo as fast as possible to play in one of the four modes.
The four modes made available in the demo will be:
NHL Moments Live
Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT)
NHL 13 Play Now
The NHL 13 Play Now mode will allow users to jump into the third period of the Los Angeles Kings versus the New Jersey Devils. The period will begin with a completely random score each play session. EA anticipates that the users will play this mode many times, so the randomized score will allow a different situation during each play. Also introduced in the NHL 13 Play Now mode will be the ‘True broadcast camera’.
NHL Moments Live
The NHL moments live option of the game will allow users to watch past NHL games and historic plays that altered history forever. The demo will feature the overtime actions of the Los Angeles Kings versus the Phoenix Coyotes from the Western Conference finals. This may seem boring to some (like me), but players who watch the whole clip will be rewarded with free HUT packs.
Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT)
The hockey ultimate team demo will demonstrate the new layout designed by EA to counter errors with the NHL 12 version. Although I’ve never personally played HUT before, it seems very enticing this year. This year there will be improvements to the reward system that will allow players to receive valuable rewards. Also, this year HUT will have a playoff system to entice players to participate with each other.
The skating physics for NHL 13 have been completely redesigned. EA will allow a free skate session in the demo so that users can familiarize themselves with the new physics of skating. True skating will apparently put emphasis on speed, acceleration, and agility unlike NHL 12 where players were fast and CPU opponents had rocket boots.
I’m really looking forward to downloading the demo and trying it out. Let me know what you’re looking forward to in the comments. Commenting doesn’t require registration and is encouraged!
NHL 13 is a much anticipated game by hockey fans like myself. I used to play the game on the PS3, until I finally realized that XBOX creates a much better game experience. I have became extremely frustrated with some of the many annoyances with NHL 12.
These annoyances include:
Penalties not being called (especially hooking and the infamous penalty on a breakaway that causes you to fall to your knees and is never called).
User goalie commands are horrible. Hugging the post shouldn’t be a negative, but EA has made it this way.
OTP game selection is broken. When people don’t get their position they cause everyone to wait until the timer is down to 1 second, or worse they play goalie and let every opposing goal into the net.
Unrealistic hip checks
Computer players with rocket boost skates
Seeing the same glitch shots over and over
The list goes on….
Will NHL 13 solve this problems??? Only time will tell. I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough, but I’m anxiously awaiting the demo. Here’s my wish list:
NHL 13 accurately call penalties.
Penalize users from performing “ice capades” and hanging onto the puck trying to Bobby Orr non-stop in OTP games.
Ability to vote OTP players out of the game.
Auto-kick goalies from OTP games that let every goal in.
Call offsides accurately.
Ability to invite friends into OTP games due to the fact the the “DROP IN” game finder doesn’t function correctly.
Do not penalize users for switching clubs. I have french people and american people I play with. The timezones are different so different clubs are required.
Less animation, more physics. Let’s be honest, your “physics engine” from last year was a joke

For now, enjoy the youtube video that EA has provided us with their new features. I can’t wait to get back into the swing of things and really dig into the new game.
I consider myself a well versed computer engineer and a businessman. Combine the two and what do you get? Someone who wants to make money doing something computer/software related. So I’ve started a test using the website fiverr. On this website I’m offering to install wordpress to anyone who needs it installed for $5. Along with installing wordpress, I’m offering bonuses such as a free ebook and theme installation.
What is fiverr?
Fiverr is a website startup where people (like me and you) can offer to do things for other people (like me and you) for $5 gigs. The $5 gigs range can literally be anything. Some people choose to make videos, other marketing, and others programming. The cloud is the limits. A seller simply needs to dream up a gig worth $5 and offer it to the community.
It basically works like this: Potential buyer sees a gig that he/she would like to purchase. Buyer purchases via paypal and seller gets an email to deliver the product. The seller has X amount of days to deliver the product before the buyer can rightfully cancel the order.
Fiverr installing wordpress
My gig is for installing wordpress for $5. I wrote as much copy as fiverr would allow telling a potential customer that I’ll glady work my butt off to install you a wordpress blog in less than 24 hours from the order date. I stated that I’m a professional, english speaking, business person that would work diligently to make the product that the consumer desires.
Right now when I type “install wordpress” into the fiverr search box, my gig doesn’t even appear. What the hell is going on? Maybe someone can answer this for me in the comments. Hopefully I’ll get some buyers so that I can increase my reputation through the fiverr ranking system. I’ll keep you all updated on my progress.
Once your phone is recognized by adb, it’s time to root your phone. Some people are concerned with rooting and rightfully so. If you don’t understand root, let me shed some light on it for you:
Rooting the Droid Razr can prove to be difficult if you have a hard time getting adb to recognize your device. However, following the instructions in my previous post should fix any adb problems.
Once your phone is recognized by adb, it’s time to root your phone. Some people are concerned with rooting and rightfully so. If you don’t understand root, let me shed some light on it for you:
Since Android is based on the Linux operating system, it is highly configurable. However, linux is a very secure operating system. The normal android device can not make many administrative-level changes to the operating system or the android environment. In linux systems, the root user (aka superuser) has unlimited administrative access to the operating system at all levels. Even though some files and options may be locked from the normal user, a root user has no limitations.
Since root can edit/change/make files anywhere on the Anrdoid system, it is a very powerful thing to do and must be done with caution. If you’re a novice and don’t understand what rooting a device provides, it’s probably best that you don’t root your droid razr. However, if you know the advantages of rooting and are willing to take the risk of potentially messing up your phone then you’ve found the right place.
There are many advantages to rooting including:
CPU / Kernel Management (optimization / battery saving)
The ability to install custom ROM’s
Ok, I’m ready to root
To root my droid razr, I downloaded an adb batch script from the xda forums. I was really ticked off because the developer of the adb script put the download behind a registration-required forum. I appreciate his hard work, but this is total BULLS#@!. This developer can easily scrape the usernames and passwords of this forum and potentially have usernames and passwords of xda members. (How many xda forum members do you actually think use different passwords for everything?). I find this activity completely shady, and therefore I’ll offer his script on my website without stealing credit for his hard work. At any time, if he removes the requirement to register to download this file I’ll remove my hard link.
Warning: This file was tested by me on Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0.4, I’m uncertain of the results on any other flavor of ICS. Do not use this file on gingerbread.
Once you’ve downloaded the script, unzip it into any directory of your choosing. The contents should look something like this:
After you’ve unzipped the files, ensure that your android phone has USB debugging and allow mock locations enabled under your android system settings. Be sure your phone is NOT in mass storage mode (PTP mode worked fine for me.)
After you’ve doubled checked your Android Operating System settings, plug your phone into your computer’s USB port. If you’re running Windows, Now you’re ready to double click the batch script. The file is called EasyRootICS_Windows. Note: If you are running linux or mac, there are respective files for you as well.
After Double Clicking and opening the batch script, you’ll see a window that looks like this:
Follow the instructions in the batch script (Just pressing the spacebar works) and it will reset your phone three times. After the final reboot, your phone will have superuser (Root). Congratulations! If you have any questions/comments/problems feel free to add a comment below. Comments can be added without registration.
If you have recently purchased a Droid Razr and have Droid Razr Problems with it concerning rooting, I’m about to save you a bunch of time.
If you have recently purchased a Droid Razr and have Droid Razr Problems with it concerning rooting, I’m about to save you a bunch of time. I came to the Droid Razr from a Droid Charge. The Droid Charge is extremely easy to root, has many available roms and a wonderful development community. The Droid Razr is a different monster. Because of the many different flavors of the Droid Razr, there are many options that can easily confuse even the most talented android experts.
If you go to your android system settings, you can find which type of Droid Razr you have. I have a Verizon XT912 Droid Razr that came stock with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. The first thing I did as soon as I got my new phone was set up my google account and give it a quick overview to test functionality. After that, I knew it was time to being rooting the device. Here’s where the problems began.
The Droid Razr community knows, but doesn’t spell out to newcomers very well about the issues with this phone. Motorola has locked the bootloader of this device and therefore rooting and installing roms is a bit different. Although I have done a few days of research, I haven’t dug into the low level specifics. The theory goes like this: Since we can’t hack the bootloader to install a custom rom, we bypass it and install our bootloader and rom on a different part of the system. After our new rom is loaded, our “man in the middle” tells the system to boot from our new rom. I call it the “man in the middle” because it isn’t technically the bootloader since the stock bootloader is locked.
This locked bootloader prevents would be hackers from installing Droid Razr Clockwork Mod tools. However, there are many options that will give you clockwork-like features. The option I sprung for was a piece of software called SafeStrap 2.0. Unlike other phones where you would normally flash this software to your device, it is installed into the system via a downloadable apk (droid app). After installation, a user can simply press the menu button at boot time to enter the Clockwork Mod sub-system and install roms.
However, the large problem I had was getting the Droid Razr 4.0 rooted. The theory behind the root is simple: Use adb to push the correct files and scripts to your device to access root and then install the superuser.apk. However, Adb did not recognize my device. This must be an extremely common occurance, because the internet is littered with people who have this same issue. I found a lot of people with the same problem by googling “adb doesn’t find droid razr” Typically the device can’t be found because your computer doesn’t have the drivers for your computer. I downloaded the official drivers from motorola and ensured there were no other phone drivers on my computer. I plugged the phone into every different usb port on my computer. I uninstalled the drivers / restarted my computer / tried all the usb ports again with no luck! For some reason, the phone was being installed as a motorola networking device when I the drivers should have installed it as a “Mot Composite ADB Interface”
Finally I was at my wit’s end, ready to throw the computer through a wall. I uninstalled motorola’s drivers and found an old version of the driver to install. I then did a factory reset of my phone and did NOT set up my google account on the phone. I enabled USB Debugging and set the USB option to PTP (do not use mass storage). I restarted my computer and BAM! The device was discovered and I was able to root the device. Below is a screenshot of what the Motorola Droid Razr should show in Windows Device Manager.
The moral of this story is that Motorola’s drivers SUCK. Do not download the official motorola drivers, they’re horrible! Instead of downloading the official drivers, download the older drivers. In case some idiot wants you to register for his website in order to download them, I’ve made them available: Droid Razr Drivers. Motorola is also stained in my mind because they have locked the bootloader of this device, preventing consumers from getting full enjoyment out of the phone. The droid razr community is still in it’s infancy, but information is hard to find. The droidrzr forums are a cluttered mess. The XDA forums are in better shape, but the damn developers force people to download files from their personal off-site webpages that require seperate usernames and registrations. Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate their work, but their marketing skills are lacking. My next few posts will outline how to root, safestrap, and install a ROM onto this device. I will not force you to register for my site, and for christ’s sake you can leave a comment for free (WITHOUT registering).
Droid Razr Problems Overview:
Uninstall previous phone drivers from your computer (In my case I had to uninstall droid charge drivers)
After the factory reset does it’s thing, do not set up your google account on the phone.
Set the phone to USB debugging
Set the phone USB mode to PTP (Not mass storage).
Restart your computer after installing the correct Motorola Drivers
Plug your phone in and your device manager should install an ADB device.
If you have any issues, leave a comment and I’ll address them to my best ability. If you read this post in it’s entirety, it probably solved a problem that would’ve taken you a long time to fix or you’ve already been researching this problem for a long time and appreciate the answer (especially if you were on the brink of throwing your phone through a wall like I was).

I recently began playing for my company’s softball team. I won’t say what team to protect the innocent, but was faced with a few dilemmas that I’m sure many other working professionals face when beginning to play for their company softball team.
When I was younger and into my later teenage years I played a lot of baseball and was an average to good player. I thought that playing softball 10 years later would be a breeze, but boy was I wrong. In order to play softball or baseball, you’ll need a few basic items:
#1) A ball glove – Since I’m only playing casually and don’t need a top of the line glove, I really didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I searched at a used sporting goods store and at my local discount store but couldn’t find anything worthwhile. If you’re buying a glove, try to stay away from the plastic gloves, they’ll only provide you with a headache as the ball will slip out of them easily. I searched all the local stores in oklahoma city, but couldn’t find a better deal than what I found on Amazon.
#2) Batting Gloves – More than likely if you’re a businessman like myself, your hands don’t see a lot of manual labor. A batting glove will prevent blisters and sores from forming on your hand from gripping the bat. The cheapest ones I could find around my area were $30. Luckily I found another steal on Amazon and was able to choose a color batting glove that matched my team uniform.
The batting glove from amazon is a high quality Louisville Slugger TPX Pro also made out of a leather like material. The material is strong and should easily last a few softball seasons and for under $20 it’s a total steal.
#3) Have fun! All you really need is a ball glove and a set of batting gloves. Your team members will more than likely provide a bat or two. The softball games provide a lot of fun in a team environment. Check the links below for the exact items I purchased from amazon.
The chili is able to be modified easily, however the chipotle chile powder should be maintained as it is one of the most important ingredients. For those of you that hate onions, don’t be afraid! You can literally cook the hell out of them at the beginning and not be worried about an over abundant onion taste.
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 medium yellow onion, diced medium 4 garlic cloves, roughly chopped 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin 1 teaspoon chipotle chile powder Coarse salt and ground pepper 1 medium zucchini, cut into 1/2-inch dice 3/4 cup (6 ounces) tomato paste 1 can (15.5 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained 1 can (15.5 ounces) pinto beans, rinsed and drained 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes with green chiles 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes Directions
In a large pot, heat oil over medium-high. Add onion and garlic; cook, stirring frequently, until onion is translucent and garlic is soft, about 4 minutes. Add cumin and chile powder, season with salt and pepper, and cook until spices are fragrant, 1 minute. Add zucchini and tomato paste; cook, stirring frequently, until tomato paste is deep brick red, 3 minutes. Stir in black beans, pinto beans, and both cans diced tomatoes. Add 2 cups water and bring mixture to a boil. Reduce to a medium simmer and cook until zucchini is tender and liquid reduces slightly, 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Fun fact of the day: Serena Williams won the Wimbledon on a raw vegan diet…pretty cool huh?
SWTOR, even post patch 1.3, has failed the gaming community.
Disclaimer: I’m one of the SWG starved gamers who realized that Star Wars Galaxies was the greatest MMO ever until John Smedly ruined it. You should stop reading now if you’re a SWTOR fanboy.
SWTOR (Star Wars the Old Republic) had high hopes from the gaming community. After SOE ruined the greatest game ever, SWG (Star Wars Galaxies), all the Star Wars geeks in the world have been anxiously awaiting the next Star Wars base MMO.
Like any Star Wars geek is required to do, I purchased the $150 collectors edition of the game and enjoyed playing for the first two months. After two months of familiarizing myself with the game, I realized the game was doomed to fail. I’ll outline some of my major problems with the game.
Class specific roles
There are no class specific roles. I created a Sith Warrior Juggernaut in hopes of being the most elite tank for my guild. Unfortunately, my Sith Warrior was made to be a tank, but many other classes can tank and some can do it better. For example, if I were a guild master would I want a Sith Juggernaut or a Sith Assassin tank who can self heal? I absolutely hate WoW, but at least if I roll a warrior to tank, I know I’ll be the best capable tank in the game.
This story is much worse for healers.. I still can’t figure out why anyone would want to roll a healer when so many classes compete for the best healer role.
Class specific skills
Class specific skills are lacking. There are absolutely zero skills that are outstanding for each class. My Sith Juggernaut can force leap to his enemies which is neat, but rather worthless. Unlike WoW, which I hate, where a shaman is the only type of class that can utilize totems or a Death Knight runes… etc. Did SWTOR think because they were utilizing a star wars theme they could ignore class specific skills and tasks?
After patch 1.3, server population is still a HUGE problem. They consolidated 211 servers into 23. I logged in tonight and have a 50 minute wait time (thus the reason I’m writing such a long, annoying post here). Why in God’s name would anyone want to wait over an hour to play a game at night? I’d rather break out pacman than wait 50 minutes to play SWTOR, or any game for that matter.
Basic MMO requirements for gameplay
SWTOR was launched EXTREMELY too early in my opinion. The team who designed this really needs to take Marketing 101. The target market for this game didn’t want endless hours of voice-over quest content. We wanted a well designed game that would take a long time to bore. Instead of adding core MMO game required features, the team at SWTOR spent countless hours adding music, voiceovers, and other artsy crap most MMO gamers couldn’t give a hoot about.
The features that have been absent the last 5 months have caused many gamers to move on and give up on a game development team that lacks a sense of marketing and the needs of the their target market.
These core MMO requirements that were ignored include:
Population – Why in the hell would I want to play a MMO that doesn’t have players? Or on the inverse, why would I want to play an MMO that has so many players I can’t log in to the servers in less than an hour?
Group finder – Yet again, an MMO requires me to play with other players. Make this task easy.
Crafting – I want crafting, not button clicking and hearing stupid responses from my shipmates. Better yet, I want crafting items that aren’t 100% worthless.
Ranked Warzones – Many people play for PvP, boy SWTOR have you missed the ball on this one? These same warzones over and over get so redundant. It’s a race to the best gear since no class really has class specific advantages over another.
World PvP – LOL, just lol.
Star Wars Interaction – I can’t interact with my counterparts (EX: Imperial can’t interact with rebel). Why the hell not? This is supposed to be a social game. SWG really hit the head on the nail with the capability to go covert and speak with your enemies to do daily business.
Guild v/s Guild battles – Yet again, SWTOR you fail. What makes a game like this more interesting than seeing a guild ganking other guilds at the Galactic Trade Terminals.
Speeder Transportation – The speeders you have implemented are a joke. A simple Google search of what a speeder should look like should’ve been enough for your development team. I guess not.
Addons / Macros – I’m sick of all your excuses, you lack the capability to provide macros and addons to a gaming community that demands them. We want games that 7 year old’s can’t figure out for a reason. Without addons this game has hit a brick wall as far as community development is concerned.
SWTOR Bots – botting is already a huge problem in SWTOR. SWTOR bots can be found for free download with the click of a search button. Bioware has not taken a big enough stance against these cheaters. There’s nothing like seeing people speed past you on foot while you’re traveling on a speeder.
Player housing – There’s nothing like being able to claim your own real estate, and I realize SWTOR isn’t a sandbox MMO. However, there must be a way to enable player housing. Without it, you lose my interest immediately.
Space Fighting – The current 1992 arcade style space fighting that is implemented into the game is a total joke.
Player bounties – Bounty Hunters hunt people, if someone makes me angry I’d love the capability to put a bounty on their head.
Add your comments here. If you post in the comments with a valid topic, I’ll gladly add it.
I’ll end my rant here, with hopes that readers will find this post via google and provide comments to add dynamic content. Maybe someone from bioware will notice and post this in their bathroom or something. My subscription ends in less than 60 days and I can’t justify re-subscribing to SWTOR.
